BJJ: Belt Ranking System

Congrats to all the youth who earned BJJ white belt stripes today from Coach Ethan Day.

NLD uses the IBJJF Ranking system for BJJ belt promotions.  In addition to the color belt a student may also earn stripes before moving on to the next belt color.

Age Requirements for Youth (3-15 years):
  • White (Any Age)
  • Grey/White, Grey, Grey/Black (4-16 years)
  • Yellow/White, Yellow, Yellow/Black (7-16 years)
  • Orange/White, Orange, Orange/Black (10-16 years)
  • Green/White, Green, Green/Black (13-16 years)
  • Blue    (16+ years)
  • Purple (16+ years)
  • Brown (18+ years)















Youth students will earn 3-stripes prior to being promoted to the next belt color and should meet the following criteria:

* Compete in at least ( 1 ) BJJ tournaments per quarter ( or ) 4 per year

* Attend at least ( 1 ) BJJ clinic per quarter ( or ) 4 per year

* Attend a minimum of ( 9 ) BJJ classes per quarter

* Demonstrate moves taught in class

A student's attitude during class and at tournaments will be taken into consideration and, as always, Coaches have discretion as to if a student may skip stripe(s) due to performance.
